ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall has said that Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have been ‘very misinterpreted’ after the presenters were accused of jumping the queue to see the Queen lying in state.
‘Honestly, nothing. Honestly,’ she replied. The pair emphasised that they didn’t take anyone’s place in the queue
‘They did have accreditation. Lots of people saying they didn’t. They were sent by This Morning to do a piece for September 20, which ran. ‘They were to interview people inside and outside. They didn’t displace anyone in the queue. And they’ve been very misrepresented, actually.’ Several companies including Domino’s Pizza and London Dungeons have poked fun at the backlash, and Dame Carolyn even complained about the‘We just said to them, “What are you doing?”‘ she added.Several celebrities including Piers Morgan have defended the presenters ‘They just thought that was funny. They didn’t think of the impact that would have on how people would pick it up and start meme-ing it.
Schofield and Willoughby addressed their controversial visit to see the Queen lying in state on This Morning last week.
