Seven horrified students were forced to move out of their rented home in Kent which was crawling with mould and infested with rats. The cherry on top was finding a poor rat that had drowned in their toilet.
Seven students were forced to move out of their rented home after they saw a rat drown in their toilet.
Elle said: ‘One of our housemates woke up to find the ungodly sight of a rat in our shared girls’ toilet. ‘We thought we were being paranoid but the same night we saw a rat run across our kitchen and hide behind our fridge.’ As much as putting up with the dinginess of student living is almost a rite of passage, Elle said she and her housemates had enough of the less-than-ideal conditions.‘At first, it was little problems like dripping taps, a broken washing machine and broken drawers.
A health check after the students moved out discovered that the blooms of mould flowering in their rooms were down to a hole in the roof that led to a leak.A report by the inspector also said planning permission had not been sought to ‘configure’ the property as a ‘seven-bedroom ’.Fuzzy mould spores stick to surfaces and thrive in warm, moist environments and can cause eye-watering, itching, sneezing, coughing or asthma attacks.
