It had been taken over by squatter
A pub which spent more than a century serving its village community before being closed down and occupied by squatters will be converted to housing.
That aspect of the plan caused complaints from neighbours that the new structure would take away the privacy of their homes and cause a loss of light which would damage their allotments. No new building will be put up and the plan will simply see the pub converted into three houses. The pub, on Ormskirk Road, has been empty for more than two years and those behind the application said it had been occupied by squatters and was left in need of major repair work. It had been in use for more than 120 years since being built in the 19th century and was recently sold for more than £275,000.
“Upon ownership of The Stanley we have noted that there there are squatters occupying the property and outbuildings, creating opportunity for anti-social behaviour, vandalism and illegal substance misuse.” The application went on to explain that a former landlord filed for bankruptcy in 2015 due to the business being unprofitable and that temporary landlord were given control while a long-term occupier was sought.
