The turbine is located close to Bristol Docks and with a blade diameter of 115 metres it generates 4.25 megawatts at its peak - enough for 3,500 homes.

There are around three thousand households living here in one of the city's poorest wards with more than the average number receiving benefits. So they battled to get start-up finance from local and central government, and then sourced the bulk of the £5m they needed from open market loans. Now, the right weather yields a return for both the investors and the community.

"We're about to build a £2.1 million community centre. We're about to build 36 less unaffordable, community designed homes in the local area for those people who are in a housing need."We've upped the game when it comes to the built environment. No more gas boilers, moving to EV charging points, We've got the first 25 passive houses that have been built in Bristol.

But it's the money generated that matters locally, around £140,000 pounds a year while they are servicing the debt and half a million a year after it is paid off. "There's a phrase in Denmark where they say your pig poop doesn't smell. And I think that's true with this turbine. When you own it you don't see a blot on the landscape. You see something that you really want," he said."We're going to develop ten more and I'm going to look at how we can do more across the country. People want onshore wind, so we haven't got a problem with that.
