The second doctors' strike in a week. But what impact are they having? 🥼 🏥
Over 250 elective procedures were affected by the latest round of junior doctors strikes in Lincolnshire, data from NHS England has revealed.
These offers were deemed to be in line with recommendations made by the pay review body, but junior doctors argue more is needed to keep up with inflation rates and restore figures back to real term levels of 2008 – hence the five days of action.The strike impact was felt here in Lincolnshire, but not to the extent of the BMA’s strike action in June, where over 1,000 elective procedures were rescheduled as a result of staff shortages brought on by industrial action.
LPFT also did not submit data for workforce absences, with the total in England recorded at 74,343 between July 13-18.Across the five days of strike action, a total of 18 inpatient and 57 outpatient procedures at ULHT were rescheduled as a result of industrial action – though this is a drop in the ocean when looking at the national figure of 11,399 inpatient and 90,578 outpatient.
Shaun Stacey, Interim Chief Executive at NLaG, said: “I want to thank all our staff for their efforts in preparing for the strike so we were able to go ahead with as much planned activity as possible whilst ensuring we continued to prioritise patients using our emergency departments and those being cared for on our wards.
Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust recorded no rescheduled or cancelled procedures and appointments, as well as no workforce absences, due to the trust not holding any clinics or appointments with junior doctors – therefore strike action did not affect the trust.
