When Ms Begum’s citizenship was initially removed, it was speculated that she may have Bangladeshi citizenship via descent on her father’s side, but Bangladesh said she would not be allowed into the country.Human rights charity Reprieve estimates there are about 25 women associated with Isis and 34 dependent children in Syrian refugee camps.that the precedent the Begum case sets for other cases was complicated.
She added: “Where then, can there be any redress for that failure? Whose failure is it? This raises a lot of questions which clearly the SIAC was uncomfortable with as well and remain unanswered.”The decision was made by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission , based on arguments from both the Home Office and Ms Begum’s lawyers and evidence from the intelligence services.
The judgement wrote: “The Commission concluded that there was a credible suspicion that Ms Begum had been trafficked to Syria… [and] the motive for bringing her to Syria was sexual exploitation to which, as a child, she could not give a valid consent.
