As the news of Queen Elizabeth II's death emerges, thousands of people are expected to travel from across the world to pay their respects in London.
In the days before the state funeral, Queen Elizabeth will lie in state at Westminster Hall for the public to pay their respects.Lying-in-state in the UK is given to the Sovereign, as Head of State, the current or past Queen Consort and sometimes former prime ministers. During the lying-in-state period, the coffin rests on a raised platform in the middle of Westminster Hall. Each corner of the platform is guarded around the clock by units from the Sovereign's Bodyguard, Foot Guards or the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.
The night before the funeral, the public can pay their respects at church services which will be held around the United Kingdom, with larger towns and cities holding memorial services in sports stadiums and public venues.
