Covid cases have shot up by nearly two-thirds in the past fortnight But how much of the increase is due to the Kraken subvariant, and how worried should we be about it? 🔎 BawdenTom explains:

There are also natural cycles to viruses – which are not fully understood, particularly in the case of Covid – which suggest that, while cases will continue to go up in the coming weeks, they are then likely to start to come down again.

But this cannot be taken for granted, scientists warn. Immunity may potentially drop significantly at any point as there is still so much people don’t understand in that department where Covid is concerned. This is well above the sub-100,000 levels seen last month and considerably higher still than the levels seen in the early months of the pandemic. But it is much lower than for much of last year and considerably below 2022’s peaks.
