So how did VAR's worst gaffe yet unfold? It all started at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on September 30, where Liverpool, already reduced to 10 men due to the controversial sending off of Curtis Jones, thought they'd taken the lead in a game they'd go on to lose 2-1 when Luis Diaz scored in the first half. The goal was ruled out for offside.. although pretty much everyone thought it was on.
They claimed that they had apologised to Liverpool for the mistake. But it didn't end there, Liverpool would demand the audio of the incident in a strongly-worded club statement the next day, and confirmed they were considering their options over how to respond. The PGMOL finally released the audio on the Tuesday evening, before confirming changes they would be making to their processes.
