Five fire engines and an aerial appliance were required
A huge fire that ripped through a Grade-II listed country manor in Northampton earlier this month was likely caused deliberately, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service have said. The fire on Friday, March 17 destroyed much of the roof at the already-derelict Overstone Hall.
A spokesperson from the fire service told NorthantsLive that an inspection following the fire revealed "most likely cause of the fire is that it was started deliberately." An appeal has now been launched for more information "as a matter of urgency". to keep the latest blaze under control and local residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke.
A spokesperson from Northamptonshire Police added: "Officers investigating the arson would like to hear from anyone who may have information about the incident as a matter of urgency. The fire is believed to have started sometime around 7am, and officers would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone, or a vehicle, acting suspiciously in or around the Overstone Park area, either prior or after the fire started.
