Cops have made five arrests so far
Two people have been arrested following a rise in ‘hugger muggers’ — a kind of theft where criminals prey on distracted or intoxicated people on their own in Manchester city centre.
“With this offence it’s often that street crimes are largely opportunistic and we need the public to be vigilant of their surroundings whilst out and about.“Those who are texting and making phone calls or those who have headphones in make themselves look distracted to criminals, ensure that when you are walking in public your concentration is on yourself and your surroundings. Please keep your valuables hidden in a bag or in pockets to avoid it being on show.
How you can protect your valuables By registering their valuables on immobilise.com owners can put details of their possessions on a national database that police can access and compare against items that have been found or recovered from suspected criminals. The pair had been previously seen by CCTV operators committing thefts in Manchester City centre on Friday, July 14. The arrests came after GMP plain clothed officers spotted the men and subsequently arrested them, with both found in possession of Class A Drugs and one found with a suspected stolen watch.
