Hilary became a Category 4 Hurricane after it began sustaining winds of 145 miles per hour.
The storm is expected to rapidly intensify throughout the day on Friday, before beginning to weaken on Saturday.Hilary is currently located above the Pacific Ocean about 400 miles south of Cabo San Lucas. It is moving northward at a speed of 13 miles per hour, and expected to make landfall in Baja California on Saturday, likely still at hurricane strength.
The government of Mexico has issued tropical storm warning for Baja California Sur, and extended storm watches to other parts of mainland Mexico. Hilary is expected to create ‘areas of flash flooding and result in landslides’ on the Baja California Peninsula, as well as hurricane-force winds and large swells of water in the ocean, the National Hurricane Center said.
