💬 “When you’re in places like Ibiza and stuff, people hit on you. You’re drinking, you’re dancing, you’re on holiday. It’s going to happen. It doesn’t really count,” says Daniel, 33, who has been with his partner for six years 🖋️ bethmayashley
Foreign holidays are all about escapism and experiencing new things. That idea can lead people to over-excitement and a fear of missing out which can apply to sex with new people, one-night stands, and holiday flings. Callisto Adams, sex and relationships expert at, who has a PhD in sexuality counselling, says the idea of making a connection with someone – however brief – can feel “too exciting to let slip away”.
“Some people remove themselves from reality completely when they’re on holiday. They’ll say ‘back to reality’ when they’re going back home,” says Adams. “For some people, this is literal, and leaves people thinking ‘holiday cheating’ isn’t ‘real cheating’.” One in five British adults admits to having had an affair, while a third say they have thought about it
. Adams says that these aspects of holidays might explain why those who would never dream of cheating on their partner at home, end up doing it on holiday. “There’s a sense of freedom when on holiday. Those who don’t manage to resist temptations very well, especially with the effects of alcohol or other substances involved, tend to be those more likely to cheat on holidays,” she says.
