In the Sicilian village of Cianciana, a 60-year-old food delivery entrepreneur from London with Polish ancestry is waiting for his Polish passport to freely enjoy his holiday home.
He says the Polish consulate in London told him he will be waiting at least a year to get a Polish passport. “In 1940, every male Italian in the UK was arrested and interned. My father, Giovanni, was interned for four years on the Isle of Man just because he was born in Italy. At the beginning of his internment his father, myCesidio, was lost on the Arandora Star, a ship sent from the UK to Canada on which 490 civilian Italians were lost, 23 from Picinisco, when it was torpedoed.”
