I never thought the crisis in NHS dentistry would turn me into a health tourist 🖋️ Grant Lakey for ipaperviews

Grant Lakey: ‘One British private dentist gave me a quote of £40,000 to do what was necessary’

I looked further afield, trying dentists miles away from home, but it was always the same story. I now know that in the South East, where I live, almost every dentist is refusing to see new patients. It became clear that there was no chance that the NHS was going to be able to help me, however long I waited.

So I started to explore private options. I’m a business owner, so I thought I might be able to afford to put things right myself if that was the only option. But I was shocked by what I discovered. One private dentist gave me a quote of £40,000 to do what was necessary. After months of searching, the cheapest option I could find was £28,000.

I became convinced that if I had been able to see a dentist, they would be telling me that some of my teeth were beyond repair and needed to be extracted. What was I supposed to do?
