Ms Al-Ghaithi’s immediate family were able to escape to a nearby city, but many thousands were not so lucky. “I lost my uncle, his wife, my cousins, my best friend,” she said. “Almost everyone I know.” “Complete lineages have been wiped out in a few hours,” Ms Moman, based in Tripoli for now, said through tears. “For the first few hours, we were all in complete shock. Everyone has someone who is deceased. It’s very difficult talking about this because we still haven’t had the chance to take all of this in.”
