I am like the hairdresser with bad hair – just because we are good at something for our work, it doesn’t mean we do it in our personal lives My late dad had a flat in France where we would visit every summer. During one of our stays, we went to the barbers’ in the village for his bi-annual chop. “How would you like your hair cut, monsieur,” the hairdresser, with a tight 1980s perm, asked in English. “Not like yours”, was my father’s reply.
Dad never cared about offending people and on this occasion, he hit on a truth. Just because we are good at something for our work, it doesn’t mean we do it in our personal lives. That’s certainly true of me: I am the hairdresser with bad hair. Because while I know a lot about how you should spend your money, and how you can save and make as much as possible, I don’t always follow my sensible advice in my personal life.
