The bizarre TikTok trend that is making users thousands - and anyone can do it
If you have been scrolling through TikTok recently you might have come across a rather odd trend on the livestreaming section of the app. Known as the NPC trend, it involves TikTok users stood in front of the camera with a dead eye stare mimicking video game characters as they receive monetary donations - sometimes in the thousands - from their viewers.
The 27-year-old from Canada has become an internet celebrity of sorts for her NPC livestreams that have racked up hundreds of thousands of views in the last month with even celebrities tuning in. At first, people were intrigued and ridiculed Sinon for her livestreams, which last for hours without her breaking character, but when she revealed that she makes around $3,000 for one livestream more and more content creators jumped on the bandwagon.
"I remember someone saying, ‘Oh my God, you look like an NPC. And then they start sending me, like, crazy money.”Short for non playable character. The term comes from open world video games like Grand Theft Auto. In these large sprawling games players are usually given the ability to control a few characters.
