'I thought renting was a stopgap - but my £1,000 a month flat has everything I need'

With energy bills, interest rates and house prices soaring, it has never been so tough for aspiring first-time buyers to get a foot on the property ladder. With the average age of a first-time buyer in the UK now 34, many young people nowadays have no choice but to rent until they have managed to save up enough for a deposit.

"I viewed lots of different places but when we drove past here I fell in love with it. The flat was fully furnished already which is great when you’re not exactly sure what your next move is as you don’t want to be buying loads of furniture.Set within walking distance of Manchester city centre, New Makers Yard offers modern, furnished one to three bed apartments. The pet-friendly development also benefits from a co-working space, an independent bar and coffee shop on its doorstep.

"It's got such a nice community feel, it has its own coffee shop and communal workspace. It’s so close to town but it's also quite nice because you are more on the outskirts.""As I do Instagram, living somewhere that looks aesthetically pleasing was also very important," Sophie said. Giving us a tour around her flat, Sophie described: “When you walk in on the left you have the washing machine, dryer and storage space and on the right is the kitchen.

“I’ve been here longer than expected and I’m planning on renewing my tenancy. It's a really lovely flat, I think wherever you go you're going to be paying a lot of money these days so you’ve got to pick and choose what’s important," Sophie said.
