Lahori Chai Shai in Levenshulme has been a major hit since opening six months ago
It’s hard to miss the Lahori Chai Shai. With it’s kaleidoscope of colours it stands out against the row of run of the mill takeaways, barbershops and convenience stores on Stockport Road in Levenshulme.
Lahori Chai Shai have only been open for six months or so but have already begun making some noise with locals. The Manchester Evening News took a trip to Levenshulme to see what’s so special about the head turning café. The somasa chaat was a Pakistani gumbo of a sliced meat samosa, onions, lettuce, chick peas and fried chickpea noodles drenched in creamy mint yoghurt. Commonly eaten for breakfast, the samosa chaat was delicious, the samosa was as spicy as you’d expect it but the yoghurt made it so you were able to keep eating as the flavours balanced each other out.
The food was piping hot upon arrival thanks to the clay plate. The biryani was what you’d expect from a home cooked traditional Pakistani place. It’s hard to tell if the claypot made a difference in taste without an alternative however Lahori Chai Shai's biryani was delicious and the novelty of eating from a large claypot will never wear off.
