“I fully regret the whole build-up and I apologise to anyone who took offence. I’m not a homophobic man. I come from a good family. I’m far from homophobic and I fully apologise to anyone who took offence. “I can only apologise. I’ve lost fans I probably will never get back. The ones who I can’t change their opinion, I fully apologise. I’m far from a homophobic man.”
Despite saying sorry for his comments, Smith could face a punishment from the British Boxing Board of Control who announced on Friday they will be investigating his press conference with Eubank.The statement signed by general secretary Robert W. Smith said: “The British Board of Boxing Control are aware of the comments made by Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jnr. at yesterday’s press conference, and the Stewards of The Board will be considering the conduct of both Boxers directly.
