Neil here is determined not to let his diagnosis of Parkinson's define him and in July plans to run from London to Barcelona, an incredible 970 miles in just over five weeks
Neil Russell from Gloucestershire is determined not to let his diagnosis of Parkinson's define him.
“Yes, living with Parkinson’s means I have to watch every step I take as I am prone to falling over due to muscle stiffness and balance issues, but I won’t let it stop me.” His partner, Nicky, will support him in the family camper van throughout the entire challenge where Neil will sleep at night and prepare for the next day. Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, and currently there is no cure. It affects around 145,000 people in the UK and every hour two more people are diagnosed. There are over 40 symptoms, from tremor and pain to anxiety.
Aaron Coleman, regional fundraiser at Parkinson’s UK, said: “We are so grateful to Neil for taking on this incredible challenge for Parkinson’s UK. With more than 40 potential symptoms, Parkinson’s can devastate lives. We’ve made huge breakthroughs in the last 50 years, but there is still no cure and current treatments are not good enough.“We hope that Neil inspires others to get involved with Parkinson’s UK.
