Mike is on track but his rent is – like private rents across the country – expensive. He pays £700 a month before bills and earns around £1,200 a month after tax.
Mr Wood has spent more than 30 years working in the homelessness sector and he fears things are getting worse. “The biggest reason that young people become homeless is that friends or family can no longer support them but the price of the private rented sector means that more and more people come to us for help because it’s very difficult to sort things out for themselves,” he adds.on the social housing waiting list.“Short-term I want to continue pursuing my career in care work because it’s a phenomenal job. I want to stay in contact with the great friends that I have made along the way too.
