Alex Chadderton, who has twins with complex needs, says the cost of living crisis keeps her up at night
Their own home, dream jobs and twins on the way. The future was looking bright for Alex and Mike Chadderton.
Following the birth of their children in 2019, the tots were both diagnosed with autism, meaning they are non-verbal and have very complex needs. “The biggest difference is that I previously had enough to cover little things like birthday presents for the family and the occasional day out. Now we’re having to really think about where our money is going to make sure we have enough to get by.”
“With both of our jobs, we felt very stable financially, we had enough to cover bills, expenses, savings and we had enough to do the occasional nice thing too. “I’m now earning more than I ever have in my life and we’re still classed as a low-income household,” Alex said. “It just baffles me that you can be working a full-time job but still qualify for government help, because a standard wage just isn’t enough to support a family in the current economic climate.”
“People all over the country are going cold and hungry, people are struggling to keep their children fed and warm, and it’s through no fault of their own.
