Despite these tougher restrictions some unions have won ballots handsomely this year – in some cases for the first time since the new law came into force in 2017, and in others, like the Royal College of Nursing,Rather than interrogate why workers are striking, the Government is devising new ways to make striking more difficult by promising new “tough new laws” to prevent industrial action.

So here’s the reality: all the tough talk of “bringing in the army”, “toughening up strike laws” and all the slander about “militant unions” are likely to be counterproductive, as they will not resolve the fundamental reasons why workers are voting for strike action in unprecedented numbers.
