The Real Madrid and Spain star's Twitter account published a tweet on Sunday afternoon, which read: 'I hope you respect me: I'm gay.'
Footballer Iker Casillas has deleted his tweet in which he said he was coming out as gay earlier today, claiming he was hacked.
But news soon emerged that Casillas' claim may have been a hoax amid reports that he's fed up of recent speculation surrounding his dating life in the Spanish press, reports the Mirror. Attempting to clear up the incident, Casillas wrote: "Hacked account. Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community."
Between 2004 and 2008, Casillas dated the winner of a beauty pageant, Eva Gonzalez. Soon after their split, Casillas began dating Carbonero. The shot-stopper famously kissed the reporter following Spain's triumph at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when La Roja famously beat the Netherlands in the final thanks to Andres Iniesta 's extra-time winner.
