In the same statement, the IMF urged the Government to consider providing more targeted support in its November fiscal plan.

An HM Treasury spokesperson said the Government was focused on growing the economy to raise living standards for everyone, and had “acted at speed” to protect households and businesses through this winter following the unprecedented energy price rise caused by the war in Ukraine. The spokesperson said the Chancellor’s November fiscal plan “will set out more details on fiscal rules, including ensuring that debt levels fall as a share of GDP in the medium term”.
