The McLaren Formula 1 team has recalled former sporting director and Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran to act as a consultant for the next stage of the outfit’s restructure.Following the winter departure of team principal Andreas Seidl, who is now CEO of Sauber, his replacement Andrea Stella led a full review of the operation in conjunction with boss Zak Brown.
“We thought that Gil, with us during this process, during this journey, would add horsepower from a leadership point of view,” said Stella. “Gil is not only very knowledgeable about racing, but is definitely strong in identifying talent, supporting talent. “To be honest, I'm not sure how he developed so much technical knowledge. He is a brilliant person that we want to have alongside.
