It welcomed generations of people down the years
These brilliant photos offer a rare glimpse inside a former Liverpool ballroom before its transformation years ago.
The ballroom first opened in 1927 and had a café and restaurant over four floors, alongside a masonic 'temple', confectionery shop and lunch counter, the ECHO previously reported. Throughout the 1960s, the ballroom hosted regular rhythm and blues nights.And by 1962, John and Cynthia Lennon held their wedding reception there. At the time, it was not a licensed premises so guests had to toast the couple with water - considered a bad luck omen.
As well as photographs, preparation work also uncovered fascinating insights into the history of the building including original tickets, dance cards and posters. A leaflet advertising a beauty contest revealed that the event at the ballroom was attended by cosmetics entrepreneur Helena Rubenstein.
