The Manchester Evening News caught up with iconic TV writer Russell T Davies in the thick of Manchester Pride celebrations on Sunday morning
Towering above the queues in a bright yellow raincoat at the centre of Manchester’s Gay Village, Russell T Davies is used to standing out from the crowd.
“We literally thought it was going to be worthy and be quietly tucked away in a dusty archive. So its success was absolutely extraordinary to us, one of the greatest delights of my whole professional life. What a surprise! “If you asked me about five years ago, I would have said it’s a party. Now, I think there’s dangers at the edge of the world. There’s been attacks here – Clonezone in Manchester has been vandalised, there've been awful stabbings in London.
“It still happens. There’s a lot of education, especially a lot of work to do in schools and educating the next generation.
