A woman who sank to an “all-time low” after losing her beloved dad to asbestos cancer has set her sights on completing the London marathon after turning to running in a bid to escape her grief.

“After test, test, test, I got a phone call to say that Dad had mesothelioma asbestos cancer and he was terminal,” explained Angela who lives in Newton Mearns. “He’d literally gone from being in Tesco with a swollen arm, into hospital and that was him terminal and he was dying within weeks.

“He was adamant he wanted to get home, so I discharged him and the nurse said ‘Are you sure?’, ‘Are you going to be able to cope with this?’ and obviously at the time I had no idea what I was in for. Devastated at losing the man she shared a close bond and even a birthday with, Angela, who was previously"relatively fit" spent almost two years on the sofa in a grieving state, eating crisps and chocolate and watching the weight pile on.
