Items found hidden on seriously hurt man sparks major armed police response in hospital with area cordoned off
A drug dealer who seriously injured himself after trying to flee from police and later sparked an armed response to a hospital has now been jailed.
The chase ended after Hussain smashed into a Mercedes 4x4. He was rushed to Fairfield General Hospital, in Bury, with serious injuries which were not life-threatening.After being taken into hospital, Hussain sparked a major armed police response after officers found a concealed firearm on him, alongside class A drugs, worth around £2,800. Part of the hospital was cordoned off with a scene put in place as forensic officers carried out an investigation.
"We have been working with hospital staff to minimise disruption and ensure that there was no risk to the wider public. The suspect was detained throughout, and a scene was put in place, which brought the incident to a swift conclusion. This was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing disruption at Fairfield Hospital."
“This was a proactive stop by our officers at the time after their ‘police instinct’ kicked in,” Detective Sergeant Andy Whitehill, of GMP’s Rochdale Child Protection Investigation Unit, said.
