Jaire Alexander passed up a $700,000 bonus he would’ve collected had he participated in voluntary OTAs this spring. But the Packers' All-Pro cornerback was a vocal presence at mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, mattschneidman writes.
All-Pro cornerback would need a much larger incentive to show up for that portion of the offseason.
“I would’ve definitely been here for 10,” he said, referring to the millions of dollars it would’ve required to get him back to Green Bay.It’s sometimes difficult to tell when Alexander, the Packers’ most enigmatic player, is exaggerating or being truthful. For example, he said Tuesday that he purchased his own island to train on this offseason. It’s safe to say that’s an exaggeration, but the point is Alexander has found what works for him and marches to the beat of his own drum.
“I just like to do my own thing,” Alexander, 26, said. “Humans are weird, too, the majority of ’em. … I know what works for me at this point. I’m on Year 6, so two Pro Bowls, two All-Pros. I mean, I think I know what I got going on here.” Oddly enough, Alexander remained in town after the season until April, then returned for mandatory minicamp this week. He said he’ll spend the majority of the summer in Green Bay because this is the time of year when it’s most quiet around the facility and he can meditate in the Lambeau Field bowl and run stadiums alone.
“When no one’s here and it’s quiet, I can go in Lambeau all day,” he said. “You have no choice but to find peace.”“Doubs caught a touchdown on me today … I gave him a hug almost. I was like, ‘Good stuff, man.’ Because the year before, he didn’t catch anything on me.”
