Foreign non-governmental organisations have been forced to pull out of Afghanistan after the regime announced the ban, days after it stopped women attending universities
On Saturday, a letter from the regime’s economy minister, Qari Din Mohammed Hanif, warned that any NGOs not complying with the order would have their operating licence revoked.AfghanistanAid organisations say female workers are critical to ensuring women can access aid. The actig head of the UN mission in Afghanistan, Ramiz Alakbarov, met Mr Hanif on Monday and called for a reversal of the ban.
“Over 3,000 IRC staff in the country are women. Our women staff are critical for the delivery of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.” Former foreign secretary David Miliband, who leads the International Rescue Committee, said its female staff were “a lifeline for millions of clients and we cannot work without them”.
