Jim McGuinness is the frontrunner to be named as Donegal’s next senior football boss and is in line for a remarkable return to county management.
His former 1992 All-Ireland winning teammates Martin McHugh and Anthony Molloy are part of the five-person committee in charge of finding the next manager following a turbulent season for the county.After Declan Bonner stepped down following Donegal’s Qualifier loss to Armagh last summer, McGuinness had been tipped to be part of Rory Kavanagh’s managerial ticket along with Karl Lacey.
That led to Aidan O’Rourke and Paddy Bradley taking charge on an interim basis with Donegal’s 2023 season finishing with a home loss to Tyrone in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals. It appears, therefore, that the job is there for McGuinness should he wish to make a return to the role he vacated back in 2014.
