A new job-creating commercial estate can now be built on a disused former engine shed and railway sidings.
Councillors have approved the redevelopment of the three-acre site off Hollins Grove Street in Darwen as 11 light industrial units across three new buildings. The scheme was approved by Blackburn with Darwen Council’s planning committee on Thursday night with 22 conditions. Darwen East Labour councillor Martin McCaughran supported the scheme as a benefit to the area. Borough growth boss Cllr Quesir Mahmood said: “There is a real need for these sort of commercial units.”
Conservative Cllr Jacque Slater said: “It’s a derelict site. It was not a good site for housing. It can only improve things. Anything that brings jobs is a good thing.
