Joe Joyce has activated a clause to have a rematch with Zhilei Zhang, talkSPORT has been told.
‘The Juggernaut’ suffered a surprise defeat to his Chinese opponent last month, Zhang winning by technical knockout in the sixth round with Joyce suffering a gruesome eye injury.But he’s looking to right that wrong immediately The Brit no longer holds the WBO ‘interim’ belt and so a world title shot against unified heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk may have slipped away.
However, Joyce is looking to get back onto the world title shot ladder and right that wrong against ‘Big Bang.’Joyce’s manager, Shane Watson, told talkSPORT: “The first fight was what it was. Joe knows how to put it right. “We spoke about an interim fight but Joe made it clear he wanted the rematch as soon as possible and this shows how Joe will take any top heavyweight on at anytime.”
