Josh Warrington is aiming to bring the WBA featherweight world title back to Leeds by defeating Leigh Wood this weekend
Josh Warrington has vowed to silence his critics on the way to becoming a three-time world champion at the weekend.
Back in 2021, the former IBF world champion was left frustrated as the opportunity to avenge his loss to Mauricio Lara ended prematurely due to head clashes. Warrington responded by reclaiming his world title against Kiko Martinez last year but subsequently lost a narrow decision to Luis Alberto Lopez.
“If I listened to the critics I would never have got to the level that I’ve achieved now,” Warrington told Dazn as part of a face off with Wood. “I started off slow in my last one, and that’s it – I’ve seen better days. This world title clash has the potential to be one of the most action-packed fights of the year and Warrington cannot wait to experience the atmosphere in Sheffield. ‘The Leeds Warrior’s’ close ties to the Leeds United fan base are well-known and Wood enjoys a similar connection with Nottingham Forest supporters, adding to the buzz around the fight.
