I would say the easiest was being comfortable around cameras, because that’s my happy place – my comfort zone. The hardest was getting out of my own head. I overthink things, and when you’re acting, you need to be present. You have to listen to what’s being said by another cast member and then respond intuitively; you can’t just be thinking about what your next line is all of the time.What was comforting for me was seeing other actors not know their lines word-for-word, and that be okay.
I did my character breakdown and profile, but what really helped me was making a playlist called “Davina Bad B Energy” to make sure that I brought the right attitude to the part. I had Nicki Minaj, Remy Ma and“No Matter What They Say” by Lil’ Kim. I feel like Davina lives in her own little world and she thinks she’s the main character in everybody’s story, but she really isn’t.It sounds very passive, but I probably wouldn’t do anything.
