Joyce celebrated her 100th birthday in style with a lavish 1920s-themed party
Joyce had wished for a 1920’s themed birthday celebration joined by all the residents and her family to mark her special 100th year, and so a party was organised with every detail to her liking.RAISING A GLASS: Joyce celebrated with family and residents at Park View care home
Growing up and living in Birmingham for most of her life, Joyce moved back to Essex in 1958. Her father had received an OBE and CBE for services to business in Birmingham, and also held the position of secretary of the Chamber of Commons. In her younger years Joyce would spend time at Birmingham Youth Church Club, which is where she met her husband Ken, who ran the club and played the piano there. After leaving school, Joyce worked as a secretary for a while, before she became a full-time mum and a wonderful housewife.
The pair were eventually married on June 21, 1947, in Birmingham. Sadly, Ken has passed away now, and the pair have children Anthony and Gillian, and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Both children have expressed how wonderful Joyce has been to them as a mother, and up until a few years ago could still beat her daughter regularly at table tennis. Joyce had attended a private school when she was younger and always enjoyed playing table tennis, and normal tennis.
