Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Thiago and Ibrahima Konate injuries plus the prospect of centre-back signing on deadline day
Jurgen Klopp has seemingly played down the possibility of signing a new centre-back on deadline day despite ruling Ibrahima Konate out of Liverpool’s clash with Aston Villa.
Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are set to start at centre-back against Aston Villa as Virgil van Dijk serves a suspension after being sent off in last weekend’s victory over Newcastle United. Konate missed that win over the Magpies with a muscle injury, and speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against Villa, Klopp confirmed that the Reds will again be without the Frenchman.
“If we could bring in a centre-half for a weekend, we would think about it,” the German told reporters. “No, we can’t. Ibou, no, he will not be ready for the game.”
