Indonesia’s president Joko Widodo announced the plans after a meeting with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The meeting revolved around discussing the next steps in implementing a comprehensive nationwide overhaul of stadium safety measures, including the decision to demolish the stadium where at least 132 football fans died and hundreds were injured in a stampede this month. On October 1, fans were caught in a deadly crush as they attempted to leave the Kanjuruhan Stadium after the defeat of the home side Arema FC by Persebaya Surabaya.
