Kate Ferdinand ‘just wants to be seen and heard’ as she speaks out
Kate Ferdinand may now be a doting stepparent to her husband Rio Ferdinand ’s children from his first marriage, but last week the 32-year-old opened up about the “shock” she experienced as she went from being a single, carefree reality star to a busy stepmum-of-three.
“When I think back, I don’t know how we did navigate it and it’s a real big blur,” she said on Anna Richardson’s It Can’t Just Be Me podcast. “I went from being a single, carefree girl to a stepmum-of-three. And these kids have gone through so much, and there’s grief. It’s all a bit of a blur.” And while she never expected to be Rio’s “number one”, Kate says she realised early on how important it was to feel heard by her partner. “It was more that I wanted to be seen and heard rather than being number one,” she admitted.
The family is about to go through another big change next month with Rio and Kate welcoming a second baby together – another much-wanted daughter. Tackling the topic head on, she made the BBC documentary Rio And Kate: Becoming A Stepfamily , which had viewers reaching for the tissues as the pair discussed the pain of life after loss. The star also launched her Blended podcast last year and has become a published author of not one but two books on the subject.
