The Good Morning Britain host shared the experience after she and Derek returned to the UK after receiving treatment abroad
Kate Garraway has spoken out about an airport nightmare involving her beloved husband which left him trapped in between passport gates for over an hour.
Mum-of-two Kate has been helping to care for the former political advisor ever since he returned home after 13 months in hospital. Kate, 56, told ITV viewers on Wednesday's show about a nightmare ordeal as she and Derek returned to the country after he received treatment abroad.The former I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of here contestant was speaking to Manchester bombing survivor, Martin Hibbert, about the degrading treatment disabled people can sometimes face.
"When they came to do it with Derek - and disability has a wide range - and he hasn't got the cognition you've got or the strength you've got in your upper body - we realised we couldn't get him into the country. He went forward, the door locked, but the disabled person had to free it. Kate recently revealed that Derek had been in and out of hospital over the previous weeks, the same time she picked up her MBE. However she said she was grateful that he could be there to support her as well as the carer who helps Derek.
