King Charles as the current patron of the Royal Thames Yacht Club would need to approve the Princess of Wales to become their new Commodore.
Kate Middleton has been rumoured to be taking over a major role from the King although she will have to step forward if she wants it, according to reports.
It comes as the club launched a new event called "Women Who Rock the Boat" earlier this week in a bid to "encourage women into the sailing world". A senior member of the club said the Princess of Wales "would be a great role model". Just days later, the sporty-Princess took to the water with the GB team in a daring sailing race against New Zealand.
Whilst Kate was pregnant with Princess Charlotte in 2014 it was announced she was Patron of the 1851 Trust - the charitable arm of the British challenger’s bid to win the 35th America’s Cup.
