Princess of Wales' sweet gesture to the Queen as royals pay their respects at Westminster ceremony

She was among the members of the royal family who took part in the procession for Queen Elizabeth II, as her coffin was moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. The late Queen will now lie in state for four days until her funeral on Monday .

During the procession, the Queen's coffin was placed in Westminster Hall, with the King and senior members of the royal family walking behind it as Elizabeth left Buckingham Palace for the last time. Inside the hall, senior royals stood in formation facing the coffin on its purple-covered catafalque, which was flanked with a tall, yellow flickering candle at each corner of the wide scarlet platform.

The King and Queen Consort stood together a metre or so apart, with the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence behind them, then the Duke of York alone, and in the next row the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Behind them were the Prince and Princess of Wales, with the Duke of Sussex behind William, and the Duchess of Sussex directly behind Kate. The princess was dressed in a black coat dress and a traditional mourning veil, which was crafted from black netting for the occasion.

The large brooch is made up of three leaves, each of which is outlined in yellow gold. A mabe pearl is positioned at the centre of each leaf, which is finished with a scattering of small diamonds. The rarely-seen accessory was previously worn by the Queen during her visit to South Korea in 1999, reports the Daily Express. In 2017, the Princess of Wales donned the eye-catching brooch during a visit to Belgium for the 100th anniversary of Passchendaele.
