Opposition leader raises concerns and calls for action after traumatic events over the weekend
A Liverpool opposition leader has challenged the city council over issues that he believes may have contributed to the dangerous flooding that saw two people die over the weekend.
In a letter addressed to the council's chief executive Andrew Lewis, Cllr Cashman said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of two lives after the recent flooding on Queens Drive L18. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those that have sadly lost their lives." The opposition leader added: "It is clearly an issue that the council needs to tackle and that I want to work with you on. I have had a good recent discussion with Cllr Liam Robinson around the public realm and we agreed on many issues. I hope that we can work together to ensure that we can do everything within our power to stop a tragic event like this ever happening again."
Anne-Marie Sherlock said: "The date on the bridge says it all 1926. A nearly 100 year old bridge and no updated safety measures in place, the road should have been closed."
