A major data breach has compromised the personal and employment details of thousands of PSNI officers and civilian staff.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “Since this story broke yesterday afternoon I’ve been personally inundated with officers who are outlining that they are shocked, dismayed and basically angry that this has happened.“Our officers go to great lengths to protect their identities. Some of them don’t even tell their close friends and associates that they are actually in the police.
The Belfast Telegraph, who first reported on the breach, became aware of it after they were contacted by a relative of a serving officer. What does it mean for officers and civilian employees? The breach could jeopardise the safety of officers. The Democratic Unionist Party’s Policing Board representative MLA Trevor Clarke said: “This not only jeopardises the safety of officers, but will further undermine morale within the organisation at a time when staff are holding the line amid unprecedented budget cuts.”
