She spoke briefly before rushing to a lift

Anne Sacoolas, the US diplomat who killed Harry Dunn by careless driving in 2019, gave an unfortunate answer when she was asked for a comment as she left a court in Washington yesterday, where she had been sentenced for the young man's death . Asked if she had any words for the Dunn family, Sacoolas simply replied: "Have a nice day."

Despite admitting to Northamptonshire Police that she had been on the wrong side of the road, Sacoolas had diplomatic immunity asserted on her behalf by the US government and was able to leave the UK 19 days after the incident. After a three year legal battle from Harry's family, Sacoolas admitted in October to killing Harry by careless driving.

She was then asked why she did not attend court in person, to which Sacoolas cheerily said, "Thank you", as the lift arrived. A member of her legal team then barked at the journalists: "You are not getting in this elevator, okay?" Reporters repeatedly attempted to enter the lift - which they had a right to do - with Sacoolas, but were pushed away by her lawyers.
