A killer whale held captive for more than half a century has died at the Miami Seaquarium as caregivers prepared to move her from the theme park in the near future.
Seaquarium and Friends of Toki medical team members began treating her immediately, but the 57-year-old orca died from an apparent renal condition, the statement said. Miami Seaquarium will be closed tomorrow, August 19, to allow our team to reflect on Lolita’s life and legacy. It is truly a sad time for us. Thank you for the kind words and support.“Those who have had the privilege to spend time with her will forever remember her beautiful spirit.”
